Our Story
How a rainforest ended up on a side street in Ayia Napa — and what it takes to keep the storms running
Jungle Mania opened in 2012 as something Ayia Napa did not have: a restaurant you walk into and stop talking for a second. The room is a recreated Amazon rainforest — carved timber, rock faces, a canopy of leaves overhead, and lifelike animatronic gorillas, elephants, jaguars, crocodiles, orangutans and parrots set through it.
Waterfalls run. Mechanical butterflies move in the branches. Every so often the lights drop, thunder rolls and a tropical storm passes over the tables before the room comes back up.
A themed room is easy to get wrong by treating the food as an afterthought. Ours runs to more than 200 dishes: full racks of baby back ribs, USA steaks, burgers, wood-fired pizza, pasta, seafood, salads and sharing platters big enough to stop a table mid-conversation.
Vegetarian and vegan options run through the whole menu, allergen guidance sits on every section, and there are highchairs for the smallest guests — because the people who come here are usually a whole family at once, and everyone has to be able to order.
Families with children who have run out of patience for another quiet taverna. Birthdays, where the platter arrives with a sparkler in it. Hen and stag groups starting a night out. Couples who wandered past, looked up at the crocodile over the door, and came in.
We are a short walk from the centre of Ayia Napa, open every day from midday, and we take bookings for large groups.
